A 21-year-old Fontana resident named Shawn Hackworth was arrested for false imprisonment and attempted rape in Rancho Cucamonga.
The incidents occurred over the span of three days. The first took place at about 5:30 PM on Friday, July 12, 2019, when the suspect entered a business at the 9100 block of Haven Avenue. According to the press release, Hackworth “entered the business, asked for some water, exited, then paced back and forth in front of the business.”
He soon reentered, then ordered the 4 female employees go to the back of the building. One employee fled through an emergency exit and called police, inciting Hackworth to flee. Rancho Cucamonga police responded to the scene but were unable to locate the suspect.
The second incident occurred on Monday, July 15, at about 6:30 PM. Hackworth entered a business in the 8800 block of Haven Avenue to find a woman alone in the restroom. Hackworth began sexually assaulting the woman. “Fearing she was going to be raped, the victim screamed as loud as she could, which caused Hackworth to flee the location.”
Police investigated the incident and concluded that Hackworth was the suspect in both events. They arrested him on charges of false imprisonment, attempted rape by force, and burglary. Details on the burglary charges were not included in the release. Hackworth was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on $750,000 bail.
Hackworth’s booking photo is being released in case there are other victims. Anyone with further information about this suspect is asked to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.
