Downtown Tulare businesses experienced a surge of burglaries the week prior to August 8th. Officers suspected the same individual, or individuals, were responsible for the burglaries based on similar evidence found at each crime scene including the windows having been smashed.
On ‘August 8th patrol units swarmed the area around the 200 block of North L Street when an alarm went off, indicating a smashed window.
One officer spotted an individual matching their wanted suspect’s description, a description they had obtained from a burglary the night prior.
The officer made contact with the individual and after discovering evidence linking him to the burglaries, arrested 22-year old Anthony Barra.
Barra confessed his involvement in at least 10 burglaries. The businesses affected included Jack’s Git-n-Go, Walgreen’s, Subway, Blue Print, Escape Room, 4B Gas, and Deja Vu Hair Salon. Some businesses were targeted more than once.
Barra was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, battery, vandalism, disturbing the peace, and multiple counts of custodial institutional burglary. His bail is set at $170,000.
