YREKA – On August 9th a deputy was called to a house concerning the shooting of two dogs. The caller said they lived on Bennett Drive and said that the owner of the property shot his two dogs.
One of the dogs was killed and the other was “severely wounded.”
The complainant then said that the shooter retrieved a military style rifle and, pointing it at him, threatened to kill him if he called law enforcement, or even if he left the property.
The alleged shooter is an ex-felon, and cannot lawfully possess a firearm. Therefore a deputy obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence.
Officers searched the property on August 9 in which four firearms and ammunition were located. Among the firearms was an assault-type weapon with it serial number removed.
51-year-old William Harvey Childs was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, threats, false imprisonment and shooting at an occupied building.
