Man arrested in connection to 1991 disappearance of Tracy Sandstra

OROVILLE — The Butte County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Stockton man in connection to the alleged murder of Tracy Sandstra, who disappeared in November of 1991.

Authorities say Sandstra and the suspect, 55-year-old Richard Pyle, were romantically involved and living together in Stirling City at the time of her disappearance. She was 29 at the time.

Sheriff’s Detectives have continued to investigate in the years since and, although her body was never found, have uncovered evidence suggesting that she’d been killed and her body disposed of.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office then worked with the District Attorney’s Office to obtain an arrest warrant for Pyle. He was arrested in Stockton on August 15th.
