Man allegedly kills parents, leaps to his death in apparent murder-suicide
SAN DIEGO — Police are investigating what they believe may be a case of murder-suicide after a man reportedly leaped to his death from an overpass last Friday.
Just before 2 AM on August 16, police received a call about a man who’d jumped from the Eastgate Mall overpass on I-805. Responding officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
The next night at around 10 PM, officers arrived at a home on Via Rivera to conduct a welfare check on a couple who were expected in San Francisco earlier that day but hadn’t arrived, prompting a call from concerned family members.
When phone calls and knocks at the door went unanswered, officers looked in through one of the windows and saw a person lying on the living room floor. After making entry, they discovered an Asian couple in their 50s with visible trauma to their upper bodies, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe that the couple are the parents of the man who committed suicide on I-405, and that he murdered them at their home before jumping to his own death.
The investigation is ongoing.
