Willits man arrested after domestic violence incident on Saturday night
WILLITS — Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of domestic violence after an incident on the evening of Saturday, September 7th.
Just before 7 PM, deputies arrived on the 2600 block of Goose Road to investigate a report that a 48-year-old woman had been physically assaulted by her husband and was hiding in the woods while she waited for authorities.
Responding deputies contacted 21-year-old Tavion Johnson at the door and noticed a fresh scratch mark on his lip as well as several on the left side of his neck, which Johnson said he received during an argument with his wife.
The woman walked back to the house and deputies learned that an argument had broken out regarding money issues and that it had escalated into Johnson screaming at the woman and chasing her around the house.
At one point, he allegedly grabbed her to prevent her from leaving and choked her as she attempted to break free, then punched her in the face. She eventually broke free and fled into the woods.
Deputies noticed redness and scratches on her neck, as well as bruising and swelling to her upper left cheek.
Johnson was arrested without incident on suspicion of domestic violence battery, false imprisonment, and violation of probation. He is held at the Mendocino County Jail on $30,000 bond.
