Ventura County – Being romantically involved with a criminal—to the point of participating in shielding a lawbreaker from contact with law enforcement—is a hazardous relationship status.
That eternal verity was demonstrated to 22-year-old Woodland Hills resident Teryn Stevens on the night of August 30th when she was taken into custody and booked on a charge of being an accessory-after-the-fact for consorting with and providing safe haven to her boyfriend, 26-year-old Moorpark resident Brian Angeles.
Angeles became the object of interest to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department on August 15th, when, according to VCSD Detective Ken Michaelson, a “report of mail theft from a Moorpark residence” was received by deputies attached to the Moorpark Police Station. Subsequent investigation led detectives to identify Angeles as the culprit.
The cops arrived at Angeles’ home with the intention of arresting him for PC530.5(e), Mail Theft. But Angeles had ducked out immediately prior to the detectives’ arrival and was nowhere to be seen. A search of Angeles’ residence followed, leading to the discovery of “property taken from three separate vehicles the night before.”
Ongoing multiple attempts to make contact with Angeles proved fruitless. Detectives then located Stevens and informed her that they were looking for Angeles with the intention of arresting him on felony charges. Two days later, having determined that Angeles was “staying at Stevens’ home” detectives established surveillance of that residence. When Stevens and Angeles were spotted driving away from the residence, both were contacted and taken into custody.
Angeles was transported to Ventura County Jail and booked on multiple charges of auto burglary, mail theft, and possession of stolen property, with his bail set at $77,500. Stevens was booked on the aforementioned accessory-after-the-fact violations and was released on bail.
