Santa Barbara – When 42-year-old Santa Barbara resident David Jiminez was pulled over by Santa Barbara Police Department Traffic Patrol Officers for a vehicle code violation while riding his motorcycle, it was because he was driving erratically.
Upon contact with the traffic cop, it was determined that Jiminez careless driving was due to the fact that he had had a few drinks. Busted for DUI, Jiminez was briefly jailed and later released on his own recognizance.
While he was being processed through the system, however, his motorcycle was transported to the Santa Barbara Police Department vehicle impound yard. While there, it began to accrue impound and storage fees.
According to SBPD Public Information Officer Anthony Wagner, while the motorcycle sat behind locked gates, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department narcotics detectives “received incriminating information” indicating that Jiminez was a suspect in an ongoing investigation into local area sales of methamphetamine.
At that point, detectives obtained a search warrant for Jiminez’s motorcycle and soon thereafter discovered “about 5.6 ounces of meth under the seat of the motorcycle.” Jiminez was promptly contacted, taken into custody, and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine for sale and methamphetamine transportation.
