Just after 10:30 PM on September 23rd, an adult male walked into the Coalinga Police Department carrying a 3-year old who had been shot in the shoulder. Emergency personnel were called to the police department to provide medical care before she was air lifted to the Fresno Regional Medical Center.
Earlier that evening, the child had been lying on her father’s chest in their living room when 5 shots were fired into their East Pleasant Street home. One round hit her in the shoulder and another went through their home and into a neighboring home.
Through their investigation, Coalinga Police were able to narrow down their suspect to 20-year old Joseph “Jose” Andrade Ramos. Ramos was also on the radar of a local Fugitive Recovery Officer for outstanding warrants.
The Fugitive Recovery Officer had Ramos’ location at a motel in Avenal and surveilled him while CPD obtained a search warrant to look for evidence in regards to the shooting.
The Fugitive Recovery Officer took Ramos into custody before the search warrant was obtained, however CPD was able to take custody of Ramos and question him about the shooting at the Coalinga Police Department.
Officers had collected witness statements, a positive identification, and video footage that supported Ramos was involved in the shooting so Ramos refusing to speak with officers did not impede his arrest for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, gang affiliation, and committing a felony while on bond. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail for all mentioned violations on September 27th.
