HOLLISTER – A call came in to the Hollister Police Department on September 23rd concerning a burglary and vandalism at Maze Middle School.
The 7:36 a.m. call brought officers out to discover “several areas of the school had been damaged. The areas of damage included the surrounding chain link fence, doors and roll-up doors to the cafeteria.”
The HPD suspected that the damaged locations were areas of entry.
Both money and food had been stolen from the school. One thing that wasn’t removed was video surveillance of the incident. From the video, police identified transient Steven Cardenas as their suspect.
The next day 31-year-old Cardenas was located, arrested and booked on charges of felony vandalism and burglary.
