VACAVILLE — A local woman has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and trespassing on a school campus after a bizarre incident last week.
Around 8 AM on Thursday, October 3, police began receiving calls about a woman — later identified as 56-year-old Aileen Caringal — taking pictures of people and vehicles near the Cooper Elementary School Campus.
Responding officers learned that Caringal had taken a 4-year-old boy by the hand and attempted to lead him away from the campus as the boy’s step-parent was dropping off his older sibling.
When the parent confronted her, she claimed to be his teacher and that the boy, whom she referred to as “Brian,” was in her class.
The boy’s name is not Brian and he is not a student at the school, nor is Caringal a teacher there.
When the parent took the boy back, Caringal followed them and kept insisting she was his teacher and threatened to call the Chief of Police if she was not allowed to take him. Another adult also assisted by bringing the children into the school office while police were notified.
At that point, Caringal fled to her home nearby on the 700 block of Christine Drive.
She is now in custody on suspicion of kidnapping and trespassing on a school campus while interfering with children.
