REDDING – An alert officer with the Redding Police Department spotted a vehicle that matched the description of one that had been reported stolen. Shortly before 10 P.M. on October 18th the officer spotted the maroon Ford SUV as it entered the parking lot of the Golden One Credit Union.
The officer ran a records check on the vehicle and determined that it was in fact stolen. The officer continued watching the stolen SUV as the driver got out to use the ATM. However, upon returning back to the SUV, the driver saw the officer and fled on foot into an empty field nearby.
The officer got out of his patrol vehicle and gave chase, issuing a verbal command for the suspect to surrender even as he lost sight of him.
By now other officers with the RPD, along with CHP and K-9 Dozer assisted in the search. They found the suspect’s discarded hat and sweatshirt in the area of the Starlite Mobil-home park on Cypress Avenue. Eventually they found 30-year-old Troy Farrare hiding on the porch of one of the units, and took him into custody.
Farrare was discovered to already be on probation in Shasta County for vehicle theft.
“Troy Farrare was arrested and booked at the Shasta County Jail for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, obstructing and resisting officers and a probation violation.”
