FAIRFIELD – It takes a certain kind of low to rob from people who have already evacuated their homes in an effort to escape from wildfires.
On October 28 a woman sat at a local restaurant on her way out of town in an evacuation. While there, a man “snatched her bag.” This bag had everything she was able to take as she fled her home.
The victim and management of the store viewed surveillance video and involved the Fairfield Police Department. Then the victim returned to the restaurant to leave her information in the hopes that her bag would be found and returned.
It turns out that while she was there leaving her information, she and the employees of the store saw the man who had stolen her bag.
The FPD were called, and they responded to the location where they then detained the suspect with the bag in his possession.
The suspect, 59-year-old Shawn Spontini was booked into the Solano County Jail for theft as well as four outstanding warrants.
All of the woman’s belongings were still in her purse.
The FPD remarks,”Even though it seems everything is coming apart with the fires, winds and power outages, its times like this that show we can all come together to make things right. We would like to thank the victim for reaching out to us, the restaurant management for quickly reviewing the video and everyone working together to get the property back.”
