SAN LEANDRO — A 19-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of robbing elderly persons in eastern San Francisco Bay area cities. The most recent victim, a 56-year-old woman, was shoved to the ground and robbed in a parking lot.
She was robbed outside the Costco Wholesale store, located at 1900 Davis Street. At least 10 other persons have reported robberies and thefts under similar circumstances. These crimes took place in San Leandro and surrounding cities.
Authorities are investigating to determine if the suspect is the same man involved in a recent series of robberies. All the known victims have been elderly or Asian persons. One of the victims was 92 years old.
The most recent robbery happened shortly before 11 a.m. on October 29. The victim was getting inside her car when a man approached her, knocked her down and ran away with her purse.
Witnesses provided responding officers with a description of the thief and the vehicle he was driving. San Leandro police located the vehicle within minutes, driving near Hillside Avenue and 83rd Street in nearby Oakland.
Officers lost track of it briefly, before locating the vehicle again abandoned on the 8300 block of Hillside Avenue. Inside, they recovered some of the victim’s belongings and evidence that helped them identify the suspect.
The suspect is Alonzo A. Moore, 19 of Antioch, was arrested three weeks later. Moore was taken into custody on November 20 at 12:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of 98th Avenue in Oakland.
Moore was booked into Santa Rita Jail. He remains in custody, pending a December 6 hearing to revoke his probation for a 2018 robbery conviction.
This investigation involving several robberies remains open. Four other individuals associated with Moore were previously arrested. Detectives are investigating to determine possible links to additional crimes.
