Santa Barbara County – There may be no more terrifying crime than that of a home invasion robbery, wherein victims are enjoying a tranquil evening secure in their abode only to be suddenly confronted with intruders threatening violence.
That appears to have been the case on the night of November 18th when Isla Vista residents 21-year-old Heyaw Meteke and 21-year-old Jawad Hebbar barged into an apartment just steps away from the campus of UCSB on Sabado Tarde Road and demanded the property owned by those living there.
According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Raquel Zick, both Hebbar and Meteke brandished firearms in support of their demands and ultimately fled the premises with “two laptop computers, a cell phone, a wallet, and cannabis.” The ensuing victim report put detectives on the trail of both men. Just days later, during the execution of search warrants on the residence of Hebbar and Meteke, the cops “recovered numerous items that were taken during the robbery” and promptly put the cuffs on both men.
Meteke was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail, charged with robbery and false imprisonment, with his bail set at $100,000. Hebbar was booked into SBCOJ as an accessory, with his bail set at $20,000.
