20-year-old Devan Smith (pictured above) of Modesto is facing a litany of charges, including attempted murder, in connection to multiple incidents dating back to May.
On the morning of Thursday, October 17, police responded to a reported shooting on the 300 block of Locust Street. The victim, an adult male, had suffered non-life threatening injuries.
On Friday, November 29, officers learned of an altercation that had escalated to an alleged shooting at the A&M Gas Mini Mart on Maze Boulevard. Police say that as both parties left the area, someone had fired shots toward one of the vehicles.
Smith, who was already out on bail in connection to a shooting on the 900 block of California Avenue on May 19, was identified as the primary suspect in both incidents.
Around 12 PM on Tuesday, December 3, officers spotted Smith riding in a vehicle in northwest Modesto. When officers attempted a stop, the driver, 30-year-old Javier Calderon, led them on a short pursuit that ended at Sisk Road and Kiernan Avenue.
Smith and Calderon then tried to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended. A handgun that had been thrown from the vehicle was also recovered.
In total, Smith faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, destruction of evidence, resisting arrest, and committing a felony while out on bail.
