ORANGEVALE – On the evening of December 1st a call came in to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office about a man under the influence of drugs who was acting strangely.
36-year-old John Reynolds was reportedly “running in and out of the home” in the 6800 block of Woodmore Oaks Drive. The person who called it in also said that there were guns in the home “locked in a safe.”
Arriving deputies came upon Reynolds “carrying a firearm in a threatening manner.” The suspect dropped his gun after a deputy fired one shot at him.
However, Reynolds began a physical fight with those who then attempted to detain him.
The suspect was ” booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges related to this incident, including being a felon in possession of a firearm.”
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office summarized – “The investigation into the incident will be conducted by the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division, which is standard practice for any officer-involved shooting that occurs in the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. An independent review of the incident will be conducted by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. The deputy involved in the shooting is a 2 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. In accordance with the Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures, the deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.”
