Authorities discover 2,400 pounds of marijuana smuggled in furniture
SAN DIEGO — A cargo facility in Tecate was the scene on December 10 of a seizure of 2,400 pounds of marijuana.
The contraband was “comingled in a shipment of wood furniture.”
On the morning of the 10th, a 25-year-old male came into the port of entry in a white bobtail truck.
The driver wrote on the manifest that he was carrying wood furniture. The CBP officer directed the truck for further inspection.
Next, “A CBP officer utilizing the port’s imaging system detected anomalies concealed within the contents of the bobtail truck.”
A more detailed search revealed the concealed drugs. The 81 packages weighed over 2,400 pounds, valued at $990,000.
After seizing the truck and marijuana, “The driver was turned over to Homeland Security Investigation agents for further processing.”
