Felonious Duo with Live Ammo Thwarted Mid-Scheme in Mojave Desert
BARSTOW – Coined the most dangerous city in California, due to its crime rate outpacing the rest of the state by 3 times, Barstow is no stranger to criminal schemes and wicked ways. Dispatch alerted an adept officer of a reporting party’s call at 2:34 AM on 12/28/19 – to head over to the scene of suspects removing their license plates, and possibly breaking into stores in the Mojave Desert.
As Corporal M. Cardenas, C65 arrived at “The Outlets at Barstow” 2796 Tanger Way, he saw the reported car with an inoperable tail light leaving the area. “Officers noticed that the license plates had been covered and conducted a traffic stop for the above vehicle code violations and to conduct a burglary investigation,” said Sergeant Frank Benitez.
A large U-Haul box was seen in the stopped vehicle’s rear seat, which led to officers detaining the driver and passenger. Corporal Cardenas returned to the first-seen location at the outlets, and found a broken-into U-Haul truck.
The owner was contacted and ferried over to the vehicle-stop location – where all of the victim’s stolen property, worth over $4,650, was ID’d and returned. Barstow residents Damian Wisdom (31) and Lachey Jackson (28) were arrested for P.C. 459 – Vehicle Burglary, P.C. 496 (a) Receiving stolen property, and P.C. 30305(a) PC Felon in possession of live ammo.
“The suspects were transported to the Barstow Police Department for further processing. Damian Wisdom and Lachey Jackson were later booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Barstow Jail.”
