BERKELEY — A man with three prior criminal convictions has been arrested in connection with a gang-related shooting. The suspect Rashad G. Glenn, 26 of Berkeley, (alias Rashad G. Albert) now faces seven weapons-related charges.
Glenn was arrested following a disturbance on December 29 at Sacramento Market at 2874 Sacramento Street. The area between this grocery store and a methadone clinic on the same block is a magnet for loiterers.
Glenn is accused of threatening to shoot employees at the market, where officers located and arrested him. However, he was subsequently charged for a shooting that occurred three days earlier.
On December 26, Glenn allegedly fired several rounds from a semi-automatic weapon in downtown Berkeley. Several persons were standing nearby, but there were no reported injuries. However, a storefront on Telegraph Avenue near Durant Street was damaged by bullets.
Officers responded to the 2400 block of Durant Street, after receiving reports of gunfire at 7:30 p.m. With help from witnesses and surveillance cameras, Glenn was identified as the suspect in the December 26 shooting.
It is believed to be related to numerous shootings in recent years in South Berkeley. Indeed, Glenn was himself the victim of gang-related violence in August 2018. He was wounded during a drive-by shooting at San Pablo Park near a crowded playground on a Saturday afternoon.
Glenn has been arrested on firearms charges several times since 2016. In fact, he was on probation at the time of his most recent arrest. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged Glenn with assault using a semi-automatic weapon.
In addition, he is charged with shooting at an inhabited dwelling, shooting at an occupied vehicle and carrying a concealed weapon. He is also charged with enhanced firearms allegations, including being a narcotics addict possessing a firearm.
