The Modesto Police Department put out a sad reminder about a cold case murder of a child that occurred over twenty years ago on their official Facebook page –
“MPD has many cold cases that we continue to investigate along with our current cases. With investigative techniques and forensic science advances, cold cases are reviewed regularly to re-evaluate evidence and look for new leads. Today’s #FridayFeature cold case is the 1999 homicide of four-year-old Jonique Williams.
CASE FILE: On July 4th, 1999, four-year-old Jonique Williams went missing from a family friend’s home on Hialeah Street in Modesto. Despite an exhaustive search that continued until early the following morning, Jonique was not located.
The next day, around 6 pm in the evening, a family member found Jonique’s body in the backyard pool at the home on Hialeah Street. The autopsy revealed Jonique was murdered and had not drowned.
An extensive year long investigation was conducted, however no arrests were made in Jonique’s murder. Over the past 20 years, detectives have continued to work the case and look at it from different angles in hopes of finding the person(s) responsible for Jonique’s murder.
Detective Letsinger’s connection to this case is unique, as he was one of the first officers to respond when Jonique’s body was found in the pool and he has never forgotten her. Now, he has taken the lead on this cold case and is convinced there are people that know what happened to Jonique but have not cooperated with investigators. “We believe it is time for family members or witnesses to come forward and help put an end to this investigation and give closure to the family”, says Detective Letsinger.
If you have any information regarding this investigation, please contact Detective Letsinger at Letsingerd@modestopd.com or Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636”
