“Over the past year, Palm Springs has seen an increase in thefts of catalytic converter. A catalytic converter is typically installed underneath most vehicles and is part of the vehicle’s emissions system.
When a catalytic converter is removed, the vehicle will sound like the muffler has been removed and the vehicle’s dashboard may display an alert indicating something is wrong with the vehicle. Victims of this type of theft suffer replacement costs of around $1,000.
These parts are commonly taken from trucks, RV’s and vans in various areas of the city. Due to the increase of these incidents, we are currently seeking the public’s assistance.
