Juvenile drives away, evades, resists, gets arrested

GRENADA – Early on the morning of February 2, a Sergeant with the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office saw a Dodge Durango being driven in an unsafe manner.

With no plates on the vehicle, the driver was swerving, driving on the shoulder and proceeding below the posted speed limit.

The driver of the vehicle would not stop when an enforcement stop was attempted. The chase continued to Montague, stopped, and then resumed the escape.

The reckless driving continued, this time exceeding the speed limit, driving on the wrong side of the road and driving in a sidewalk.

This time the driver collided the Durango into a fence, and the standoff began after a juvenile passenger exited the vehicle.

With verbalized threats coming from the suspect, SCSO’s Special Response Team (SRT), SCSO hostage negotiator, and a SCSO canine were called to respond to the scene.

K-9 officer “Peewee” came and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

The chase covered 6.3 miles and lasted for nine minutes.

Turns out the driver was also a juvenile, 17-years-old. His charges are DUI, felony evading and felony resisting.
