The morning of February 27, 2020 a woman had an uninvited guest in her house, her ex-boyfriend, Alex Carmona. An argument ensued. Carmona produced a gun and pointed it at the woman and a second adult in the house. He assaulted the woman with the gun, striking her on the head, causing the gun to go off. The bullet traveled through a wall near the woman’s four-year old child. Carmona fled the Fresno home in a white Toyota Camry while the victims called 911.
Patrol units had the description of Carmona’s car from dispatchers and around 9:45AM, an hour after Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the West Olive, North Blythe Avenue home, Carmona was spotted near Chestnut and Lane Avenue in southeast Fresno.
Carmona ignored commands to pull over, instead increasing his speed to 90 miles an hour. Police chased him for about a minute to East Lamona Avenue where Carmona literally hit a dead end. With the car still in drive, Carmona jumped out of the moving vehicle right before the unattended car hit a concrete wall.
The car ricocheted off the wall and struck a patrol car. Carmona continued to flee on foot until he ran into deputies waiting for him in the parking lot of a business on East Hedges Avenue. Carmona had jumped over fences before arriving at the parking lot, some of which had razor wire. His hands and arms were badly cut and EMS was called to transport him to a hospital.
A closer look into Carmona’s get-away car showed the car was a rental and not under his name. Meth, marijuana, a scale, a pipe, cash, and packaging for the sales of narcotics were found in the car. The 33-year old may be charged with burglary, assault, negligent discharge of a firearm, child endangerment, and evading police and possession of drugs for sale. He was booked into Fresno County Jail where he remains at the time of this writing, with bail set at $760,500.
