Burglar Breaks Through a Wall for Alcohol Heist on the Way to Motel
CLAREMONT – According to online reviews, the liquor selection is vast at La West Liquor and Market at 333 East Arrow Highway, near the Claremont Colleges. A bold burglar sought exactly that as he perpetrated a break-in during the wee hours of March 3rd – by smashing through a drywall, then taking off with alcoholic beverages.
Surveillance captured the perpetrator’s vehicle, which was provided to officers. While on a proactive patrol at the Motel 6 (840 S. Indian Hill Blvd.,) an officer spotted the vehicle parked there – with clearly visible alcohol and burglary tools.
Investigation ID’d the vehicle owner, as well as the assigned motel room. As soon as the suspect exited his room, Frank Hernandez (40) of West Covina was contacted by awaiting officers.
“Hernandez was arrested and booked at the Claremont Police Department Jail for commercial burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and committing a felony while out on bond,” said former Police Commissioner and current Council Member Ed Reece. “He is being held in lieu of $20,000.00 bail and will be arraigned in Pomona Superior Court.”
