39-year old John Burton, an active duty military member stationed at the Naval Air Station in Lemoore was arrested on February 18, 2020. The night prior, deputies of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office traveled to China Peak Mountain Resort in Lakeshore to take the statement of a woman whom Burton is suspected of sexually assaulting.
As reported, Burton entered the woman’s hotel room without her permission, knowing she was staying alone. He then sexually assaulted her. When resort employees became aware of the offense, they called the Sheriff’s Office on the woman’s behalf.
Burton, witnesses, and the victim were interviewed by detectives after which Burton was placed under arrest for felony rape and booked into Fresno County Jail. He has since posted the $50,000 bail.
