The Corning Police Department official Facebook page reports an incident in which a driving infraction opened the opportunity for a vehicle search –
“On Friday evening, around 10:30 pm, Deputy Hammell was patrolling the area of Ferretti Road in Groveland. Deputy Hammell witnessed a pick-up truck pass over the double yellow line into the oncoming lane. Deputy Hammell stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, 48-year-old Christopher Bird of Groveland.
Deputy V. Lee and his partner K9 Zeus arrived on scene to assist with the traffic stop. K9 Zeus conducted a sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of a drug odor inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was done. Several grams of methamphetamine, a working digital scale and drug paraphernalia were located hidden inside the vehicle.
Christopher was arrested and booked for possession of methamphetamine for sales, transportation of methamphetamine for sale, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
