BERKELEY — An 18-year-old man wanted for assaulting pedestrians with a paintball gun turned himself in to police. Daylon R. Davis, 18 of Berkeley, faces charges for assaulting or injuring 12 persons. A plea hearing was scheduled for March 12.
Six separate paintball assaults were reported to police last month. The suspect was driving around in South Berkeley and shooting a paintball gun at victims. One of the victims sustained a serious facial injury.
Davis was identified as a suspect a few days after the attacks on February 9 and 10. Detectives went to his residence, but he was not at home, and police were unable to immediately locate him.
However, investigators located his car parked near his home, the same neighborhood, where the paintball assaults occurred.
Inside the trunk, police found one paintball gun, and two bags containing more than 1,000 paint pellets. A stolen firearm was also recovered from inside his car.
Davis is known to authorities because he is a convicted felon, prohibited from possessing any kind of weapon. In fact, last year he was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm and ammunition.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Davis, and on March 2 Davis surrendered himself at police headquarters. He was later transported to Santa Rita Jail, where he was held in lieu of $60,000 bond.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Davis on March 4. His charges include assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
