Five people — four juveniles and one adult — have been arrested in connection to an alleged drive-by shooting in San Juan Bautista in which a resident was hit by a stray bullet.
Police say that just after 7:30 PM this past Wednesday, April 1, a juvenile riding in the passenger seat of a car being driven by 19-year-old Brian Moreno fired upon a group of juveniles in the area of Polk Street.
A total of nine shots were fired, according to police, many of which struck a nearby house and one of which struck a resident inside. They were transported to a nearby trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Two California State Park rangers heard the shots and responded to the scene, issuing a BOLO alert for the suspect vehicle — described as a red Nissan Rogue.
Hollister Police soon located the vehicle as it turned onto Union Road from eastbound Highway 156 and conducted a traffic stop. Additional officers and San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to provide assistance.
Moreno and four other occupants — three juvenile males and one juvenile female — were detained and arrested. Spent shell casings and a Ruger handgun were located in the vehicle.
Despite the arrests, the investigation remains active.
