Proving once again that dating the wrong guy can prove perilous for females, an underage teen who went missing from home on March 19th was the apparent victim of a violent encounter with her adult boyfriend, identified by authorities as 21-year-old Goleta resident Gilberto Guarjardo.
It was the 911 Emergency report of the girl’s disappearance from her parents’ home that initially brought deputies to their residence. According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Raqel Zick, just two hours later “the juvenile returned home with multiple serious injuries.” Deputies questioned the girl and learned that “her boyfriend had severely beaten her, brandished a weapon and threatened her.
With the girl then transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for medical attention, deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Guajardo, but had no immediate success in locating him. He was ultimately tracked down to a location in Ventura County on March 31st, where deputies made contact and took him into custody without further incident.
Guajardo was then transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on multiple felony charges including Domestic Violence with Injury, Terrorist Threats, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Force Likely to Cause Great Bodily Injury. He remains in custody with his bail set at $500,000.
