Spent shell cases littered the area of Fox and D Street in Lemoore the afternoon of April 5, 2020. Lemoore PD detectives were called to investigate the gang related shooting. Their findings lead them to 20-year old Juan Carlos Linares as their primary suspect.
Detectives worked with the Kings County Major Crimes Task Force to detain Linares during a traffic stop on April 7, 2020. At the time he was taken into custody, Linares was in possession of a stolen, loaded handgun.
The driver of the vehicle in which Linares was found, 24-year old Miguel Montes, was also arrested for the weapons violation and may be charged with participating in a criminal street gang during the commission of a crime.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for a home on the 1000 block of Laurel Lane in Lemoore, the residence in which Linares was staying. Clothes Linares wore the day of the shooting was recovered, as well as military grade body armor, a ballistic helmet, gun belt, gun holster, and other gang indicative evidence.
The military equipment matched property reported stolen out of a vehicle on February 14, 2020.
Both men were booked at the Kings County Jail, where they remain in custody at the time of this writing. Linares could be charged with attempted murder, multiple firearm violations, and a gang enhancement. His bail is set at $955,000. Montes faces multiple firearm violations and a gang enhance charge. His bail is set $240,000.
