U.S. Border Patrol agents kicked off the month of April with two significant meth busts at the El Centro Sector station.
Around 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 1, a woman approached the checkpoint in a red Kia Rondo. When a K-9 narcotics detection team alerted to the vehicle, it was sent over for secondary inspection and, lo and behold, ten packages of suspected methamphetamine were found hidden under the floorboard.
According to an official press release, the packages weighed a total of 54.2 pounds and would have fetched an estimated street value of $102,980 (photos below).
The woman (a 29-year-old U.S. citizen whose name has not been made public), narcotics, and vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Three days later on Saturday, April 4, a man approached the checkpoint in a white Ford Explorer at around 2:30 PM. As before, the K-9 team alerted to the vehicle and had it inspected.
Agents ended up finding 76 packages of suspected methamphetamine hidden in the dashboard, all four doors, and the two rear quarter panels of the vehicle (photo above).
Officials say the packages totaled around 83 pounds with an estimated street value of $156,000.
As before, the man driving the truck (identified as a 57-year-old U.S. citizen), the drugs, and the vehicle were ultimately turned over to the DEA.
