An assault called Visalia police officers to the area of Linwood and Noble the evening of April 14, 2020. As officers are taking the details of the incident, a second assault was reported on the 3700 block of West Myrtle.
The description of the assailant was the same as the first and identified as 28-year old Keenan Ray Newton. He had attacked two strangers in their home, injuring both victims with a large stick.
Not far from the scene, officers located Newton whose rap sheet includes convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a police officer, and domestic violence. He is currently on probation for possession of a firearm.
Newton fought his arrest. A department issued Taser was deployed but Newton’s resistance was not deterred. When the K9 officer was released, Newton continued to fight, punching and kicking the canine. After his arrest, Newton remained combative and he was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Newton could face charges for attempted murder, home invasion, resisting arrest with force or violence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and assault on a police canine.
