SAN RAFAEL — Jail can be a revolving door for repeat offenders particularly during the Coronavirus pandemic. A man arrested Monday was arrested and released twice last week, and he was also arrested during March and February.
Detectives believe the suspect Julio C. Gomez-Bolanos, 22 of San Rafael, is a gang member. He has been arrested several times since he turned 18 in 2017.
Most recently, Gomez-Bolanos was arrested April 27th on DUI alcohol/drug charges. He was arrested April 23rd for driving with a license suspended for drunk driving. On April 22nd, he was arrested for robbery, street terrorism and probation violation.
His most serious arrest concerns a robbery on the 400 block of Canal Street on April 19. Two victims were repeatedly kicked and punched by two suspects, who robbed a cell phone from them at 9 p.m.
Gomez-Bolanos was identified as one of the two suspects involved. SRPD officers searched for Gomez-Bolanos, but they were unable to locate him that night. He was apprehended on April 22nd at the 7-Eleven store located at 703 B Street.
A sharp-eyed officer in the parking lot spotted Gomez-Bolanos inside the store. The officer recognized him as one of the suspects wanted for robbery.
Although, he attempted to conceal himself in the back of the store, Gomez-Bolanos was arrested without further incident. He faces charges for robbery, street terrorism and probation violation.
In March and February, Gomez-Bolanos was arrested on DUI charges and for driving with a license suspended for drunk driving. In October 2017, he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
