A report about a domestic violence situation sent Fresno County Sheriff deputies to East Ashlan Avenue between Greenwood and Academy Avenue in Sanger the afternoon of April 30, 2020.
Dispatchers were informed a man was choking a woman. When they arrived, deputies were met by the victim who managed to escape 36-year old Ronald Harris.
She notified deputies two small children remained inside the home with the suspect. The house was surrounded and Harris was called to surrender.
About an hour after deputies were dispatched, Harris exited the house armed with bladed weapons, threatening the deputies. As commands to surrender continued unheeded, two deputies simultaneously discharged their weapons; one fired a handgun, the other a shotgun.
Despite having been struck, Harris continued to fight his arrest. He was taken into custody after a third deputy deployed a Taser.
Harris was provided with first aid until a helicopter ambulance transported him to a hospital. He is expected to survive. He was booked electronically into the Fresno County Jail and faces being charged with domestic violence, child endangerment, resisting arrest using threat or violence, assault with a deadly weapon, and making violent threats.
His bail is set at $55,000. No deputies were injured.
