CATHEDRAL CITY – A single-vehicle traffic collision at the Eastbound I-10 Date Palm Drive offramp on Thursday, May 22nd, 2020, at 10:25 P.M. brought in the California Highway Patrol.
The Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force was enlisted for an assist. During the investigation, the driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of serious firepower – a loaded 9mm Glock semi-auto handgun with a threaded barrel, as well as suspected cocaine.
“Gang Task Force Officers assumed the investigation of Case #GE201430001 and subsequently arrested the driver, convicted felon and documented gang member, Christopher Elyjah Martinez (26) of Cathedral City,” said Sergeant Paul Heredia. “Martinez was charged with Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Gang Member in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of a Loaded Firearm with Narcotics.”
For carting around – much less possessing – serious firepower and drugs, Martinez was booked at the Indio Jail.
