CALEXICO – A Remote Surveillance Operator alerted El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico Station of “suspected kettlebell packages being thrown over the International Border Fence from Mexico into the United States,” on 06/03/2020 at approximately 11:35 PM.
The kettlebell is a type of fixed-weight strength training equipment that resembles a large, smooth stone with an attached handle. According to KettlebellsUSA: “The Russian Military requires its recruits to train with kettlebells. The United States Secret Service & the FBI Counter Assault Team also require their operators to train with high-repetition, ballistic kettlebell moves.” In fitness, kettlebells are widely regarded as a more versatile alternative to traditional dumbbells.
The makers of these crafted hefts are in good company, apparently. However, rather than opt for agility and muscle training, the kettlebells seized at the border were stuffed with contraband before being hurled over the border fence.
“An agent responded and located five abandoned kettlebell packages near the fence and south of First Street,” said California Border Patrol (CBP). “The agent seized and transported the kettlebell packages back to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for further processing.”
Border Patrol Agents examined the hefty packs at the station, resulting in a positive test for methamphetamine. Weighing in at 10.3 lbs., the powerful, highly-addictive illegal stimulant wreaking havoc in the U.S. has an estimated street value of $19,570.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was the recipient of the foiled delivery.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation’s borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with securing the borders of the United States while enforcing hundreds of laws and facilitating lawful trade and travel.
