Driver in a Head-on Collision Arrested for Manslaughter and DUI Charges

DANVILLE — A driver was arrested for manslaughter and other charges after two persons were killed in a head-on collision. They died as a result of the first of two collisions occurring one after another.

On June 7 at 3:45 a.m., a wrong-way driver was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the 680 freeway. The Contra Costa California Highway Patrol was notified, moments before both collisions happened.

First, the errant driver collided with another vehicle, near El Pintado Road in Danville. Two Antioch residents were pronounced dead at the scene, a 46-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man.

Moments after that collision, the victim’s car crashed into another vehicle. Fortunately, no one else was injured as a result of this secondary collision.

When first responders arrived on the scene, the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was located and appeared intoxicated. She was detained, suffering from injuries, and subsequently transported to a hospital.

CHP officers investigating the accident went to the hospital, where they arrested Camille V. Kimball, 27 of Concord.

Kimball faces three charges for driving while intoxicated. In addition to gross vehicular manslaughter while driving, Kimball is charged with a felony DUI alcohol/drugs. She is also charged with driving the wrong way on a divided highway.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone who saw the wrong-way driver prior to the collisions can call the CHP at 925-646-4980.
