Animal-Cruelty Arrest – Woman Abducts Kitten, Kills it with Bug Spray
SOUTH GATE – The search for a woman captured on home-surveillance, grabbing a kitten and
spraying bug spray into its mouth is over.
The eerie video images released by South Gate Police Department captured the action on 07/06/2020 near midnight on the 4700 block of Tweedy Ave.
Described was a white female, approximately 5’7″, 160 lbs., with red or orange hair, and wearing a blue hoodie and long pants. Shortly thereafter, on 07/07/2020, Detective Seargeant Ververa posted images on Facebook regarding Case DR#20-05583.
The woman had held the homeowner’s kitten, sprayed its mouth and body, then left. The kitten was found deceased shortly thereafter. South gate PD Detectives teamed-up with Southeast Animal Control Authority (SEAACA) to investigate the death.
Facebook posted outraged responses to the disturbingly-sad imagery, and questioned the mental state
fueling the suspect’s actions.
Later that night, night-shift Officers receiving the details noted remembering their “coming into contact with a female subject matching the description in the area of Firestone Blvd / Garfield Ave.
Officers went to check the area and located her at the Denny’s parking lot (5811 Firestone
Blvd),” said Det. Sgt. Ververa.
In addition, reported Det. Sgt. Ververa, “She was in possession of a kitten.” Officers making
contact confirmed her involvement in Monday’s tragic incident. The anonymous female was
arrested, booked, and taken to a mental health facility for evaluation.
Added Det. Sgt. Ververa, “The kitten she had was unharmed and taken by SEAACA.”
