BLOOMINGTON – Deputies from the Fontana Sheriff’s Station made haste to an elderly victim’s 911
call on 07/06/2020 at 5:14 PM to find the residence robbed and ransacked. A terrified elderly man and his bedridden wife had been in the way of Stephen Mitchell (33) of Bloomington.
The confidential elderly male victim reported the ordeal, “by an unknown Hispanic male, inside his home ransacking his kitchen,” said Station Detectives.”The victim’s elderly bed-ridden wife was near Mitchell in fear while Mitchell took their belongings by force.”
The action escalated when “The victim confronted the suspect but was assaulted and thrown on the floor by Mitchell. Mitchell took the victim’s cell phones and other belongings and fled on foot through the rear yard and over a wall,” added Detectives “The victim located a secondary cell phone and called the police for help.”
Deputies from the Fontana Station immediately arrived on-scene to set up a perimeter of protection for the elderly victims. Leads gathered revealed an area where the assailant was last seen.
Sheriff’s Aviation assisted the thorough ground search. “Mitchell was located and taken into custody
without further incident,” announced Fontana PD.
All of the assaulted and robbed victims’ belongings were recovered and returned to them. Mitchell was transported and booked into West Valley Detention Center for Residential Robbery and Elder Abuse.
