She preyed on the goodness of others as she claimed to have cancer in in 2014, allegedly involving the removal of her reproductive organs.
But then 28-year-old Kellie Denise Kuhnel Walker got pregnant, a development that suddenly drew the attention of one concerned citizen, who reported it to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.
The report came to authorities early in 2019, and the investigation began. Over 60 people were scammed out of a total of $10,000, given to “help” Walker’s nonexistent medical bills.
In 2014 the scammer announced she had stage 2 ovarian cancer. A bank account was set up and over 200 friends and family attended a dinner in her support.
A GoFundMe account was also set up for Walker.
The ruse was deep as Walker had folks take her to medical appointments, and she sent thank you emails to donors as she alleged that she was going through chemotherapy treatments.
It all came down on July 16, 2020, when Walker was arrested at Fresno Yosemite Airport. She currently resides in New Mexico, but likely will be changing her address in the near future.
Walker is now held at the Mariposa County Dentention Facility, booked on charges of grand theft and theft by false pretenses. She was released on $50,000 bail.
