The Watsonville Police Department made two arrests in separate cases that both involved the sexual abuse of minors –
“In a matter of 8 hours, WPD detectives arrested two men accused of sexually abusing minors. The cases are unrelated.
The latest arrest occurred early this morning in the area of Harvest and Riverside Drive. The suspect, 28-year-old Javier Solis is suspected of committing sexual acts against a minor. Solis was booked into the county jail on several sex-related charges. His bail has been set at $50,000.
Hours earlier, Fermin Vega, 70, was taken into custody after three victims courageously came forward to report the continual sexual abuse by the suspect. The victims were between the ages of 7 and 9 when the abuse occurred.
Vega was arrested for continual sexual abuse of a child, lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and lewd and lascivious acts with child under 14 using force. His bail has been set at $250,000.
All victims in both cases have been referred to counseling.
