In 1987, 26-year-old Julia Hernandez-Santiago’s body was found on Alga Road in Carlsbad.
The victim had been sexually assaulted and murdered.
In spite of “much evidence” being recovered, no suspect in the crime was ever identified.
Over the years, new technology evolved. In March of this year a man was arrested for drugs and weapons charges and his DNA was entered into the database.
Then in May, a DNA match was discovered that attached 54-year-old James Charles Kingery to the murder.
Kingery was taken into custody and booked into jail.
After 33 years, many thanks go out to the various law enforcement officers and agencies who partnered to solve this cold case.
