The evening of August 6th, 34-year old Karl Murphy of San Diego went to a residence in
Porterville demanding to see his girlfriend.
He was not allowed into the home and Murphy reacted by vandalizing the victim’s car. Murphy then forced his way into the residence and with a baseball bat struck the victim several times until the victim’s roommates were able to stop the attack. Murphy fled the scene before Potterville Police Officers arrived.
The next morning officers were informed Murphy was still in town, staying at the Motel 6.
When Murphy was contacted, he was still in possession of the bat he used during the reported assault.
He was also in possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and found to be under the influence on a controlled substance. He was arrested for home invasion, assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism exceeding $400, and various drug related charges.
Murphy was booked at the Tulare County South County Detention Facility. As of the time of this writing, he remains in custody at the Adult Pre-Trial Facility with bail set at $50,000.
