Police have apprehended a suspect wanted for attempting to kidnap and sexually assault a 15-year-old girl in Santa Ana.
The attack occurred in the 800 block of North Ross Street on July 30, 2020. The victim reported that the suspect, whom she described as a 19-20 year-old Hispanic man wearing black shorts and a blue shirt, “began making obscene comments and offered the victim money in exchange for sex acts,” according to the release. As she walked away, ignoring the remarks, he suddenly “walked up to the victim from behind and sexually battered her, then wrapped his arms around her and lifted her up off the ground,” the release stated.
The victim was able to escape from his hold and flee, while the suspect left the scene in a compact white SUV, according to the victim. Santa Ana police released a description of the suspect and surveillance video of the retreating vehicle, which appeared to be a 2016-2017 white Hyundai Tuscon with front and rear end damage, in the hopes of gaining investigative assistance from the public.
On August 10th, the suspect was identified as 28-year-old Kevin Steven Brito and arrested by Santa Ana Police Department Special Crimes Detectives. He was released later that evening after posting $100,000 bail.
