“On 08/20/2020, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Red Bluff Police responded to a reported stabbing in the 1100 block of Franzel Rd. As officers were driving to the call, the 911 operator took a report of a traffic collision in the area of South Jackson Street and Vista Way. Officers investigated both incidents simultaneously and learned a 51-year-old woman was stabbed by her 50-year-old live-in boyfriend who then left the residence in his vehicle.
After stabbing the victim, the suspect attempted to kill himself by driving his Toyota 4-Runner into a utility pole at the corner of South Jackson Street and Vista Way at high speed. The pole was sheared off, interrupting PG&E service to approximately 7,800 customers. Witnesses to the crash pulled the suspect from his burning vehicle and the Red Bluff Fire Department extinguished the vehicle fire and a small vegetation fire that was also caused by the crash. The suspect was transported to the hospital via ambulance. He sustained multiple injuries from the crash and is in critical condition.
The victim was seriously wounded. A neighbor called police and provided first-aid until paramedics arrived. The victim was flown to a trauma center where she remains in critical condition.
PG&E quickly restored power to most customers and worked through night to replace the damaged power service lines.
This investigation is still ongoing and at this time the suspect has not been arrested.”
