Sexual Assault Victim’s Evidence Corroborated – Elusive Drug-Rape Suspect Arrested

CLAREMONT – Former Police Commissioner and current Council Member Ed Reece has announced the strong, efficient partnership of Dodger the Claremont Police Department (CPD) Drug Detection Canine, his handler, and the Claremont Police Department Detective Bureau. They successfully nabbed their man on August 27th.
On March 23, 2020, Officers responding to a disturbance call on the 1500 block of Mural Drive encountered a 38-year-old female, “who stated she was drugged and sexually assaulted by the suspect inside his nearby residence,” said Council Member Reece. “The victim was able to provide the officers with suspect information and the location where the crime occurred.”
Five months of continuous investigation later, with evidence located and the victim’s statement corroborated, Dodger and his CPD crew arrived to execute a search warrant at the suspect’s front doorstep. John Dehaseth (56), from Claremont, “attempted to escape by fleeing on foot out the back door of his residence but was quickly apprehended by the officers,” said Council Member Reece. “Evidence was recovered at the suspect’s residence.”
The elusive suspect was arrested on suspicion of rape and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently booked into Claremont PD Jail.
Investigation information shows that the Sexual Assault Suspect is currently unemployed. August 31st is his schedule arraignment date at Pomona Superior Court.
Dehaseth is being held in lieu of $100,000 Bail. Kudos are going out to CPD Drug Canine Dodge and his crew.
