A 30-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy he claimed to be tutoring.
The suspect, Michael Douglas Bailey of Santa Ana, was said to frequently let neighborhood kids inside his Santa Ana home to use the Internet. In an interview with CBS Los Angeles, Santa Ana Police Department’s Corporal Anthony Bertagna said, “He had the parents convinced that he was an ex-teacher and a tutor and he could help their kids.”
The incident occurred at Bailey’s home in the 500 block of East Pine Avenue on August 24, 2020. The victim was inside using the restroom, while other boys were using the computer in a different room.
The victim reported that Bailey entered the restroom while he was inside and sexually assaulted him.
“The victim was screaming. His friends were pounding on the door, and eventually he let the child go,” Bertagna told CBSLA journalists.
Police were dispatched to the residence following the incident and arrested Bailey there. He was booked at Santa Ana Jail and later released after posting $100,000 bail.
Officers contacted the Santa Ana Unified School District to find out whether Bailey was affiliated as an educator or tutor. The district confirmed that he was not.
Santa Ana Police Department Detectives believe that there may be other victims connected to this suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Nick Vega at 714-245-8368, nvega@santa-ana.
