Suspect in Colorado Arrested for a Murder Outside a Supermarket in Fremont
FREMONT — Alameda County authorities are working to extradite a murder suspect who was arrested last week by police in Colorado. The suspect is a fugitive wanted for a murder that took place outside a busy Fremont supermarket.
This murder occurred on the evening of April 8 at the Mowry East Shopping Center, outside a Lucky’s supermarket. The victim 32-year-old Anthony Garza died less than an hour later at a hospital trauma center.
The suspect drove into the parking lot in an SUV. The victim exited from a vehicle and walked over to the SUV and argued with the suspect. The suspect pulled a gun, shot the victim, and then immediately fled from the area.
Fremont detectives identified a suspect shortly after this fatal shooting took place. However, it took months for authorities to locate him.
Surveillance operations were set up throughout California and with agencies in several other states. Last week, Fremont detectives learned that the suspect was probably hiding in Colorado.
An undercover team of Fremont detectives traveled to Colorado to work with local agencies there. On September 7, Fremont detectives determined the suspect was at a residence in Lakewood, Colorado.
Once the suspect’s location was ascertained, a Lakewood Police Department SWAT team made the arrest. The suspect identified as 27-year-old Kamalpreet Singh was booked into Jefferson County Detention Facility in Golden, Colorado.
Singh was interviewed in Colorado by Fremont detectives, pending his extradition back to the Golden State. Upon his return, Singh can look forward to charges for murder with a gun enhancement.
