Pick-up Truck Driver Arrested for Hit-and-Run Crash with a Motorcyclist
SAN RAFAEL — The driver of a pick-up truck has been arrested for a hit-and-run accident with a motorcyclist. The crash landed the motorcyclist in a hospital with critical, but not life-threatening injuries.
The accident was recorded by surveillance cameras at 10:56 a.m. on Sept 12. It happened in downtown San Rafael, near the intersection of Second and Hetherton streets.
A pick-up truck making a right turn without signaling collided into a motorcycle in the next lane. The impact tossed the motorcyclist into a steel barrier by a freeway on-ramp, but the driver of the pick-up kept going.
Investigators questioned witnesses and reviewed videos recorded at the crash scene. The license plate numbers of the pick-up were partially obscured, but investigators were able to obtain clearer images from other nearby cameras.
With a better view of the license plate numbers and images of the driver, investigators identified a suspect.
Four days later, San Rafael officers located the driver identified as Omar Alexander Uribe-Diaz, 47 of Novato. Moreover, his pick-up truck had damage consistent with the accident.
Uribe-Diaz was arrested on September 16 at 11:30 a.m., outside 1104 Bridgeway in Sausalito. He was transported and booked into Marin County Jail, where he remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Uribe-Diaz faces charges for a felony hit-and-run accident with injuries and making an improper turn at an intersection. In addition, he faces charges for being an unlicensed driver with no insurance.
